![]() ![]() But it may be that you've got the wrong amp if you don't want distortion. You need to take the time to learn how to set it for your preferred sound. The distortion you are experiencing is attributable to the amp settings. The Alpha-Omega prides itself as having a distortion-centric preamp. Darkglass AlphaOmega 900 Reverb FREE SHIPPING BEST PRICE PROMISE FOREVER SUPPORT The AlphaOmega 900 takes the best elements of our most successful distortion preamplifier ever, combined with state of the art features to make a monstrous 900-watt amplifier with earth-shattering tone. You would have been just fine with the Fender Rumble 410. The Darkglass AlphaOmega 900 takes the best elements of Darkglasss most successful distortion preamplifier ever, combined with state of the art features. Zzounds weren't honest with you in making your choice: you did not need to buy a Darkglass cabinet and could have used one from any manufacturer, and not pay the premium price. Given two identical cabinets (say a 4-ohms 410 and a 8-ohms 410 from the same manufacturer) they would have identical tone, but different in total output. The tone of a cabinet has nothing to do with its load. The amount of load determines how much total power is delivered by the amp. This can either be a single cabinet at one of these ratings or a combination of cabinets resulting in a total load. The Alpha Omega 900 can be operated with your choice of 2, 4 or 8 ohms speaker load. My theory is that cabinet would work best with the alpha omega 500 or the microtubes 500. Also I read a post about someone who had the same head and they had the darkglass 210s and they claimed the cabinet stopped working. This is a the benefit of using the class-D amplifier. It is impossible to get the same grind from an Ampeg SVT without clearing the space of anything with ears. ![]() My question is, would it have sounded as good with the rumble 410s or are those darkglass 4 ohm cabs needed to fully handle the distortion it’s capable of. You can go 500w route also and you’re only sacrificing a small amount of headroom. I haven’t had a real chance to experiment with it to see what it can do yet because of work. My dad who happens to be the guitar player in our band and also the biggest critic also loved the sound, and he also hates distortion and it was slightly distorted that day. I plugged everything up and got my music man stingray 5 and loved the sound. A month ago I finally ordered the head and the 212 cabinet. I talked with the folks at zzounds who assured me that I would need a darkglass 212 or a darkglass 410 to go with that head. I had been on the fence because of concern it wouldn’t sound good or possibly damage my fender rumble 410 cabinet because of the head being rated at 4 ohms and the cab being rated at 8 ohms. After months of research I purchased the alpha omega 900 head.
